In his own words, Mike Vivian is the ‘old busted up chippy’ behind Samphire Boards.
Mike has always had a natural talent for crafting things out of timber, a passion he has acquired over his 50 plus years as an old school carpenter & joiner.

In his backyard workshop in Busselton, Mike can be found working & experimenting with raw timber to hand-craft his functional & artistic pieces. Over the years Mike’s love of cooking and part-time hobby of creating boards & utensils from native Australian timber has turned into a retirement project that now sees his creations in high demand.

What makes Samphire unique is that Mike chooses not to source timber from commercially felled or milled trees. Instead, he rescues timber from restoration & renovation projects, old farm buildings, and ‘windfall’ timber from trees that have naturally fallen down.
